Program Description 

In a world of global competition, with new products developing at an unparalleled speed, highly skilled and adaptive technology engineers have many exciting and productive career opportunities available to them.

The Electronics Engineering Technology degree at the School of Engineering & Technology blends theory with analysis, design and business skills to prepare graduates for designing and implementing electronics-based products and systems. Specific courses include computer-based circuit design and simulation, signal processing, probability and statistics, communications (analog, digital, data communications, high-frequency, microwave), embedded wireless systems, microcontrollers, networking and control systems. Many classes integrate lab work, allowing students to test and apply new knowledge right away.

Learning Outcomes

After completing the Bachelor of Technology (Electronics Engineering Technology) program, graduates will be able to:

  • Design and implement systems in residential, commercial and industrial buildings that are compliant with relevant regulations and building codes.
  • Use C++ and draw from a strong foundation of mathematics, physics and computer science fundamentals.
  • Recommend, configure and upgrade scalable networking equipment.
  • Understand the principles and tools of project management.
  • Write business documents that are informative and persuasive, including formal research proposals and investigative reports.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, customers and team members from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Execute a career planning or career advancement strategy. Graduates will also have created a portfolio highlighting their achievements, goals and professional development plans.
  • Understand the fundamental ethical and legal principals applicable to businesses in Canada.
  • Understand the social, political, environmental, cultural and economic effects of technology and how psychological principles can be used to predict human behaviour and improve quality of life.
  • Demonstrate what they have learned through a capstone senior project where they work with a team to design, evaluate and present a new product prototype.

Bachelor of Technology (Electronics Engineering Technology) graduates receive both a degree and a diploma in this program.
